Splashbacks Behind a Hob

It is not recommended to use a Perspex® acrylic (Gloss and Matt and Painted Splashbacks) or an Aluminium Composite Splashback behind open heat sources, such as a cooker. These materials can only tolerate temperatures of up to 80°C before discolouring and warping. Therefore, it is advised not to fit acrylic or aluminium composite splashbacks behind an electric or gas hob. However, if you have an induction hob, you may place our Matt, Gloss and Painted Splashbacks behind it with a 50mm gap between the panel and the hob. Alternatively, for an aluminium composite splashback, a 150mm gap between the panel and hob is recommended behind an induction hob.

Our toughened glass splashbacks are the most suitable option to fit behind a heat source as they have high heat resistance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between gloss, matt and painted splashbacks?

Our matt and gloss acrylic splashbacks are quality coloured acrylic sheets provided by Perspex® in 3mm and sometimes 5mm for certain colours. This acrylic is a solid colour right the way through, there is a limited colour selection. Our painted splashback is made from Perspex® 6mm clear acrylic which is spray painted on one side to make it look just like glass.

We recommend ordering a sample to check the colour in the final location as screens can display colours differently. If you can’t find the correct colour or are trying to match a specific paint, RAL or Pantone colour get in touch and we can create a custom sample for you.

Are painted splashbacks heat resistant?

Our painted splashback panels melt at high temperatures or from exposure to direct flames. Please see the above table to see if you can use this type of splashback behind your hob. Alternatively, you can take a look at our glass kitchen splashbacks which can be placed behind any hob.

How do you clean a painted splashback?

Keeping your painted splashback panels clean and hygienic is easy, as all that is required is warm soapy water and a microfibre cloth. Only use household detergents, no high-alkaline cleaners.

Can you cut a custom hole for plug sockets?

We are able to accommodate any requirements you may need. You can customise your splashback when ordering. For plug sockets, select the Sockets option and configure where your plug socket is. For more assistance please contact us using our email form.
