Protective Backing

Unlike many of our competitors, we take the extra step of adding a layer of vinyl to the back of our most of our gloss acrylic kitchen splashbacks for extra protection. Please do not peel this off - you will know if it is the protective film as it will have a blue sticker on it stating that it shouldn't be peeled off.

The vinyl backing on these splashbacks effectively conceals any adhesive you use during installation. You won't have to worry about any unsightly adhesive marks or residue showing through the acrylic sheet, as our vinyl backing offers a uniform and polished appearance. This allows you to enjoy the vibrant colours and beautiful patterns of our splashbacks without any distractions.

Splashbacks Behind a Hob

It is not recommended to use a Perspex® acrylic (Gloss and Matt and Painted Splashbacks) or an Aluminium Composite Splashback behind open heat sources, such as a cooker. These materials can only tolerate temperatures of up to 80°C before discolouring and warping. Therefore, it is advised not to fit acrylic or aluminium composite splashbacks behind an electric or gas hob. However, if you have an induction hob, you may place our Matt, Gloss and Painted Splashbacks behind it with a 50mm gap between the panel and the hob. Alternatively, for an aluminium composite splashback, a 150mm gap between the panel and hob is recommended behind an induction hob.

Our toughened glass splashbacks are the most suitable option to fit behind a heat source as they have high heat resistance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of splashback?

Splashbacks offer an affordable way to update your home's look without redecorating the entire room. A competent DIYer can install them in just a few hours, saving the cost of hiring contractors.

Their incredibly easy wipe-clean surface keeps high-traffic areas like kitchens and bathrooms hygienic by protecting walls from water damage and food splashes. Splashbacks can be used as full wall panels or just upstands to prevent water from dripping beneath counters.

Made from durable materials, splashbacks are a long-lasting investment that will maintain their quality for years. Their versatility means you can choose from many options to quickly update your décor.

What are the differences between our glass, acrylic, and polycarbonate splashbacks

Glass splashbacks are made of durable, scratch-resistant tempered glass, offering excellent heat resistance and a premium look. They're more expensive and require professional installation due to their weight. Acrylic splashbacks, made of lightweight Perspex®, are budget-friendly and easier to install, often suitable for DIY projects. They are more prone to scratches and can't withstand high temperatures. Our scratch-resistant painted polycarbonate splashbacks provide a middle ground. Made of strong, impact-resistant polycarbonate with a scratch-resistant painted surface, they offer improved durability over acrylic while being lighter and more affordable than glass.

Are acrylic splashbacks heat-resistant?

Acrylic splashback panels melt at high temperatures or from exposure to direct flames. The melting point for most Perspex plastics is 80 degrees Celcius, so they cannot withstand extreme temperatures. We recommend using our glass splashbacks which will withstand any heat.

Can I put an acrylic splashback behind a hob?

Not if it is gas or electric. You will need a gap of 50mm between an induction hob and the acrylic sheet.

How do you fit a kitchen splashback?

While we suggest you hire a professional to fit any of our splashbacks, it is possible to fit our splashbacks yourself. To do so, you will require an adhesive, and finish with a neutral cure silicone to seal along where your splashback meets the surface.

How do you clean a splashback?

Clean splashbacks regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth, and warm soapy water.

  • Use gentle circular motions.
  • Rinse off soap residue thoroughly.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads that could scratch.
  • Promptly clean spills to prevent staining.
  • Use a squeegee on a glass splashback, and plastic polish for an acrylic splashback.
  • Gentle, weekly cleaning prevents buildup and keeps splashbacks looking their best.

Can you cut a custom hole for plug sockets?

We can customize your splashback to fit your specific requirements. If you need to accommodate plug sockets, choose the Cut-Outs option when ordering and specify the socket location. You can use our visualizer tool to preview how your custom splashback will look. This allows you to check that all specifications are correct before ordering. If you need any assistance with customizing your splashback, please contact our team at info@cutmy.co.uk. We're happy to help make sure your new splashback is tailored to your unique needs.
