Our paintable slab kitchen doors are crafted in our Sussex workshop using Moisture-resistant MDF. This high-quality material ensures durability and longevity, making it an ideal choice for kitchen environments. Depending on our supply, the MDF may come in either a green or brown colour, but rest assured, the quality and performance remain consistent across both options. We apply a white paintable edge banding to the doors making them easier than ever to paint.
With our pre-drilled hinge hole option, there's no need for any expensive tools or hassle. Just take down the old door and put up the new one. Take a look at our handy guide on how to measure your existing cabinet hinge holes.

MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) has a smooth, uniform surface that ensures a flawless painted finish. Unlike natural wood, it has no grain or knots, making it the ideal choice for achieving a sleek, professional look.
Our high-quality MDF is designed to withstand daily kitchen use. It resists warping, cracking, and splitting, ensuring that your doors remain in great condition for years to come.
Whether you have a modern, traditional, or shaker-style kitchen, paintable MDF doors can be customised to suit any aesthetic. Choose from a range of styles and apply the perfect colour to match your vision.
By repainting and reusing your kitchen doors instead of replacing them entirely, you’re making a more sustainable choice, reducing waste and extending the lifespan of your kitchen cabinets.
Really easy process and our doors look great.
Painting MDF kitchen doors is a straightforward process that allows you to achieve a professional-looking finish. Whether you’re updating your kitchen on a budget or looking for a bespoke colour, following the right steps will ensure a smooth, durable result.
1
Prepare the Surface
Remove any dust, grease, or dirt from the doors using a damp cloth with mild detergent.
Lightly sand the surface with fine sandpaper (120–180 grit) to smooth out any imperfections.
Wipe away sanding dust using a tack cloth or a damp microfibre cloth.
2
Apply Primer
MDF is highly absorbent, so applying a primer is essential to create a smooth base for painting.
Use a specialist MDF primer or a general-purpose wood primer. Apply a thin, even coat with a roller or brush.
Allow the primer to dry fully, following the manufacturer’s recommended drying time.
3
Sand & Prime Again
Once the first coat of primer is dry, lightly sand the surface again with fine sandpaper (180–240 grit) to remove any raised fibres.
Wipe away dust and apply a second coat of primer for the best coverage.
4
Apply Paint
Use a high-quality paint suitable for wood and cabinetry, such as satin, eggshell, or gloss.
Apply thin, even layers using a brush, roller, or spray gun for a professional finish.
Allow each coat to dry fully before applying the next layer, lightly sanding between coats for a super-smooth result.
5
Finish & Reassemble
Once the final coat is completely dry, check for any imperfections and do any necessary touch-ups.
If desired, apply a clear protective topcoat for extra durability.
Reattach handles and hinges before reinstalling the doors.
Top Tips
For a Professional Finish
Use a spray gun for an ultra-smooth, factory-like finish.
Avoid overloading the brush or roller to prevent drips.
Allow sufficient drying time between coats for a long-lasting result.
Use a dust-free environment to avoid imperfections in the paint.

Yes, priming is essential. MDF is highly absorbent, and a good primer helps seal the surface, preventing uneven paint absorption. It also improves adhesion, ensuring a smooth and long-lasting finish.
Use a high-quality wood paint such as satin, eggshell, or gloss. Water-based paints are easier to clean up and dry quickly, while oil-based paints provide extra durability but take longer to dry.

Yes, you can! Our paintable kitchen doors are made from Moisture resistant MDF but you’ll still need to ensure they’re properly sealed with primer and paint to prevent swelling or warping.

Yes! One of the biggest advantages of paintable MDF doors is that they can be easily repainted whenever you want a new look. Simply sand lightly, apply a fresh primer if needed, and repaint.
Measure the height of the door followed by the width, in millimetres. Make sure you are only measuring the cupboard door and drawer fronts themselves, not the cabinets. We recommend measuring against the back of the doors rather than the front, as these are usually the squarest parts. If you are ordering multiple doors we suggest you measure these individually as some doors may look the same size but have slightly different dimensions.
We offer precision cutting techniques ensuring excellent levels of accuracy at +/- 1mm
Two door hinges are the most common configuration for standard-sized kitchen cupboard doors. For larger cabinet door sizes, between 1500mm and 2200mm, we'd suggest using 3 hinges.
