White Magnetic Secondary Glazing Tape 25.4mm x 5m
Magnetic secondary glazing tape is an easy-to-remove tape that allows you to fix sheets of acrylic to your windows for a cost-effective and simple secondary glazing alternative to traditional double glazing. As well as insulating, our white magnetic glazing tape provides effective noise insulation and instant access to the window beneath.
Our white magnetic tape comes in two parts, one white steel strip that sticks to the window frame and one magnetic strip which sticks to the glazing. The magnetic strip’s adhesive side is white for a discrete look on white window frames.
This tape is 24.4mm x 5m, so there should be plenty for you to mount on a larger window such as a metre plus. Please consider the width of the tape (25.4mm) when measuring the size of acrylic secondary glazing required.
The white magnet glazing tape comes in coils and can be cut at the required measurements for your project. To use, measure, and frame up to the point that the inside edge of the tape will be placed on.
Once you’ve measured the length you need and cut the specific amount of tape, clean and degrease the window frame using an appropriate preparation wipe or cleaner, and then stick the black magnetic tape into position on the sheet. We recommend using one of our microfibre cloths for this task.
Hold the panel onto the window frame so it overlaps equally on all sides. Draw a pencil line around the sides of the sheet onto the frame and cut the strip to fit this, sticking it into place just inside of the pencil marks. You can then clip the sheet into place.
How does the magnetic tape work?
There are two parts to the magnetic tape, a magnetic strip and a steel strip. The white steel strip sticks to the window surround and the magnetic strip sticks to the glazing. When these are aligned they have a significant hold similar to a magnet on the fridge.
How do I install magnetic tape?
- Clean and degrease the surface you will be sticking the tape to.
- Cut the strips to the required length and then peel off the self-adhesive backing and stick them into position. If used for secondary glazing, adhere the white steel strip to the window frame and the magnetic strip to the glazing and ensure there are no gaps in the tape so that a thermal seal between the window frame and glazing is created.
- Align the magnetic and steel strips so that they stick to one another.
Can I use Magnetic tape with glass?
No, we do not recommend using this product with glass as the glass will be too heavy for the magnets to work properly.
Can I use it on an external window frame?
No, we do not recommend using magnetic tape on the outside of your home as it will be vulnerable to high winds and theft.
What size window can I use White Magnetic Tape on?
We recommend this tape for a window larger than 1m x 1m with 2mm, 3mm or 4mm acrylic. For extra support, you could rest the glazing on a window sill or place a couple of screws under the glazing panel to support it. You can also double the tape and apply it side by side but ensure you account for that when measuring.
How much tape do I need?
Ideally, you want enough to create a complete outline around the edge of the glazing panel. If you have ordered a secondary glazing pane measuring 1000mm x 500mm, the perimeter is 3000mm; one unit of our tape would be enough to cover this as we supply 5m lengths.
